Five unconventional people around Seattle

Ciao Reader,

in March I woke up at 5:00 in the morning for ten days straight. Every time in a different place in the Pacific Northwest. It was one of the most beautiful trips I've ever taken.

After Japan, the new Fay Archive campaign brought me to Seattle, the San Juan Islands, Orcas Island, and Oregon, to tell the stories of five people living in radical ways.

That area has a soft, diffused light, almost suspended. The sky changes constantly: low clouds, sudden breaks of sun, metallic reflections on the water.

For this project I worked as a Nikon ambassador, using the new ZR. It's the first camera born from the union between Nikon and RED: same technology, same colorimetry, which means you can use them together seamlessly. The ZR when you need speed and a smaller footprint, the RED for everything else. Two different tools, one visual language.

Traveling light takes you to the right places at the right moment. That immediacy lowers people's guard. Keeping things essential makes everything more real.

I met a mechanic at a historic shipyard founded in 1946, where time stopped in the 1950s. Two oyster farmers on an island only reachable by ferry, hands always in the cold water of the bay. An artist on Orcas Island who works iron because, he says, metal has memory and remembers every hammer blow. A kayaker who built his home, his workshop, and his boats with his own hands, and lives on the border between Washington and Oregon. And then, up in the mountains, among the snow and the snowmobiles, a researcher studying wolverines in the most remote areas of Washington State.

Five ways of being in the world, doing things off the beaten path, in breathtaking places.

While waiting for the campaign to come out, I'm sharing some travel photos with you, hoping they convey a little of what I found there.
